Information about using Windows Update in ReviOS

ReviOS is fully compatible with Windows Updates since the 23.12 playbook version. You can get the latest security patches and feature updates from Microsoft without any issues.

A key improvement is that **Windows Update will no longer reinstall any system components that ReviOS has removed.** This means you can enjoy the benefits of a minimal system without compromising stability or having to re-apply the playbook after every update.

Is Windows Updates disabled?

Windows Updates are not disabled entirely. Revision pauses Windows Updates by default and disables automatic update checking. This is done to maintain the functionality of the Microsoft Store, Windows Activation, and other essential services. You can easily enable Windows Update at any time using the Revision Tool.

How to update Windows?

Updating Windows is done the same way as on a standard Windows installation. Simply, open the Windows Update page in Settings and click on the highlighted button (either Resume updates or Check for updates).

For more information on the process, you can refer to the official Microsoft support page.

Should I re-run the Playbook After Updating?

Doing it after every Windows Update is no longer mandatory. The removed system components (from WinSxS) will not be reinstalled.

You should re-run the playbook only under two circumstances:

  • If you notice that previously removed UWP/APPX applications have been reinstalled by the Windows Update.
  • If a new version of the ReviOS Playbook has been released with new features, fixes, or optimizations that you would like to apply.

You can find more information about updating the playbook on the dedicated page.
